Privacy Policy

This covers both the BlurShield app for macOS and this website (blurshield.app). It describes exactly what's collected, what isn't, and who else sees it.

What the app never does

BlurShield's blur is rendered entirely on your Mac. The app never captures, screenshots, stores, or transmits anything about what's actually on your screen — there's no server involved in the blur itself.

What the app does collect

When BlurShield displays the blur, starts or stops Espresso, or you set a keyboard shortcut, it sends a small usage event (which trigger fired, and which overlay style you're using — nothing else) to our server. This is tied to a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware identifier, not your name, email, or Apple ID, and never a raw serial number. We use these events only in aggregate, to understand which features are used.

When you activate a licence key, the app sends your licence key and that same hashed device identifier to our server, so we can enforce the number of Macs your plan covers. Your licence key and plan details are then stored locally on your Mac in the Keychain — we don't keep any other record of your device beyond that hashed identifier being marked as activated.

What we collect when you buy a licence

Purchases are processed by Paddle.com, our reseller of record — Paddle collects your payment details directly; we never see or store your card information. Once Paddle confirms your purchase, we receive your email address, the plan you bought, and the transaction details, which we use to generate your licence key and email it to you via Resend, our transactional email provider. That record (email, licence key, plan, purchase date) is what lets us help you if you lose your key or need to move it to a new Mac.

Website analytics

This site uses Google Analytics (GA4), which sets standard Google Analytics cookies in your browser and reports page activity (like viewing the pricing panel or starting checkout) to Google. If you complete a purchase, we also send Google a server-side purchase event (amount, plan, transaction id) attributed to your Analytics identifier, so we can measure conversion — no email or name is included in that event.

Who we share data with

• Paddle — payment processing, tax, and invoicing (they are the merchant of record for your purchase).
• Resend — delivers the email containing your licence key.
• Google Analytics — aggregate website and purchase analytics.

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone beyond the three services above. Our own database (Firestore) is locked down so that only our server-side code can read or write it — there's no way for it to be queried directly from a browser or the app.

Your choices

To request a copy of the data we hold against your email or licence key, or to have it deleted, email home@blurshield.app. Uninstalling BlurShield removes everything stored locally on your Mac, including your licence key.

Children's privacy

BlurShield is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
